Machinima Documentary Music and Al Peretz in Pop Art Lab

Categories: NewsTags: , , , , Author: Claus Uriza

Al Peretz is setting up a series of machinimas interviewing various creators working in Second Life. I first met Al during our machinima contest preserving our previous sim design. He happened to win the contest with an amazing piece of work showcasing the powers of music combined with 3D graphs and a whole lotta love. Check it!

Then we recently met during my vacation far far away from prims and watching it now I missed some endings here and there but hopefully it’ll leave some space to think. The filming and documentary script is awesome. Big kudos and thank you Al!

In today’s music scene, there aren’t too many artists whose songs can immediately transport you to a better time and place, or whose lyrics lift your day and inspire ‘feel good’ emotions quite like LANCE Rembrandt.

This USA based musician has found a solid and devoted fan base due to his songs that have the ability to captivate audiences in both real and second lives such as his half a million copy selling anthems like ‘Rise and Shine Hero’ and ‘New York City Smile’

His recently launched EP ‘I wish You Were Here’ is perhaps his defining moment, with five acoustic tracks that will make the soul soar.

Not short on emotion and passion, one gets the feeling that you can put this EP on “Repeat” and fall in love all over again. The title track, “I Wish You Were Here”, is very elegantly crafted, with the quality of LANCE’s voice combined with his lyrics and passion. You have no choice but to feel the pining to be with that one who holds your heart.

“Even as I was in the process of recording this project, all those around could feel there that there is a special vibe coming from this piece of work.” Says LANCE himself of this sparkling new CD.

After a huge week touring the USA and appearing on various TV and Radio shows, LANCE Rembrandt will be launching this new EP to his Second Life fans on Saturday 24th July at 12pm SLT at The POP ART LAB sim.

Holidays – the invasion of physical worlds and coming ups

Categories: NewsTags: , , , , , , , Author: Claus Uriza

The lab is running in safe sunny holidays mode and only 1 stream been up previous weeks. However we are back within few days and it’s time for a brief update.

Our Art Breaker collaboration project showcasing 3500+ prims  of inter- reactive music, sound and art installations is speeding up and we’ve recieved some very cool proposals. Please note submission deadline is set for July 31. Due to the size and amount of work related to this project we’ll try to extend the rezz/build timeframe. Still final date for opening the showcase is set as part of our 2 year birthday anniversary start of September. More on this soon.

Good news on PALs coming autumn season! We are glad to announce we finally got event managers set and ready to kickoff with more focused events  starting early August. I have to admit this position at PAL haven’t been easy to find. To put it straight we only wants the very best artists and DJs fitting into our interests and finding those requires music brains. Long run these changes will strengthen our community and ensure we remain an important part of the virtual music scene. When thats said it’ll also allow me to step bit down and focus my time on the overall PAL presence which keeps taking us into new directions and cooperations!

Speaking of events… more good news! Saturday July 24 at 12 PM PST/SLT we’ll host Lance Rembrandts cd-release party of his new EP “I Wish You Were Here”. As a teaser by now watch his new promo video below where Lance talks about his new recordings. More details on show coming up.

To end this update it’s time to look back and introduce the physical worlds. Lately I went to a global confrence on virtual worlds hosted in Denmark. I did a short PAL poster session presenting our virtual work and few minutes later I was  asked to go talk about what we do at PAL as part of the new Nordic Worlds project. I had zero time preparing this and didn’t even knew the theme was “Trends in Virtual Worlds”. Please ignore flaws and the on the fly sequences! Also go check other participants interviews including John Lester aka x Pathfinder Linden

Back to virtuality and notes. Lately I did one more interview/talk for Al Peretz who is currently setting up a new series of machinima interviews. To those who don’t know Al Peretz he is the great talented guy who recently won our machinma contest.

Finally we passed a rather World Cup 2010 infected SL7B celebration. We would have loved to be more around but glimpsed happily in silence. The greatest moment however was Philips return or to say Mark Kingdons whispering melodies in the background right before Philip Rosedale grabbed the mike!

Happy holidays

Call for Artists – Music/Sound/Art Installation Event

Pop Art Lab is proud to launch a new and exciting collaboration aimed to reinforce creativity and push the limits of what can be achieved across the music, sound and art communities in Second Life.

All creative artists in Second Life are invited to participate in a large music, sound and art installation at Pop Art Lap (PAL) as an individual artist or a group. Therefore, you can be one artist or a group collaborating, but we need one name per entry. We will only accept 8 artists or artists groups to participate and we kindly ask all artists or artist groups that would like to participate to provide a link or landmark to galleries in order to preview previous works. Thus, if we get more than 8 submissions, only 8 will be selected.

The building environment:
The installation will take place within a large area of the PAL sim. Each artist or artist group will be assigned a 40×40 area. The lots will not touch each other (i.e. the visitor will walk on a pathway that goes from a lot to another). In the exhibition area there will be a soft background music stream following a harmonic music scale. The rules for the installation are:

1. The maximum number of prims allowed for each artist/artist group is 400.

2. The sound and music in all installations should follow a given tonality/scale (to be announced later). This limitation is needed so all pieces will be in musical”sync”. Please ask Binary Quandry for directions.

3. All installations/pieces should be inter- or reactive.

4. Building can take place from 2010-08-14 till end date 2010-09-03.

5. After a 2 months showcase all installations will be removed.

6. Scripts should be made low lag.

7. PAL keeps the right to refuse an idea or a build if it’s against its interest. Therefore, if you would like to participate, please write a few lines about your idea.

Important dates:

July 3 – July 31: Call for proposals (send/show us your ideas)
July 31 – August 13: Evaluation (committee selects the 8 participating entries)
August 14, Saturday: Rezz (build starts)
September 4, Saturday: Event (showcase incl. happenings)
October 6, Saturday: End (removal of builds)

Notes: Binary Quandry will call for a pre build meeting. Please attend in order to get rules and questions cleared. Please note that the event is meant as collaboration, not a competition. Installations will be up for a two months showcase period and opened with a huge event as part of Pop Art Labs two year birthday celebration start of September.
