Art Breaker: Two month exhibition of interactive digital art – An established music venue in Second Life, Pop Art Lab will host a major event starting on the 4th of September, 2010. This event, titled “Art Breaker”, is a collaboration of eight major Second Life artists. They have been challenged to set up an exhibition made of visual and sound art, aimed at being interactive and reactive to the visitor. The artists are (Second Life names): Bryn Oh, Abstract Baroque, Sunn Thunders, Miso Susanowa, Misprint Thursday, Sabrinaa Nightfire, Binary Quandry, Sledge Roffo. This collaboration will take place over a full sim (virtual piece of land of 65000 sqm). The artists have been allotted a parcel each and been given free hands to their creativity. The result is a wide variety of ideas, atmospheres, and interactions.

Art Breaker: A celebration – To celebrate the beginning of this major exhibition and also remembering that this date is the anniversary of its creation, Pop Art Lab will organize on the 4th of September, 2010 a worldwide event. Along with famous speakers, the artists will have the opportunity to speak of their creations and to interact with the audience. And not to forget music, a selection of the finest Second Life musicians – some of whom having a successful real life career as well – will play music live. As Second life is a worldwide environment, the event will span a 12 hour period to allow people in Europe, the Americas, and Asia to participate in their respective timezones. The event will also be partly recorded and broadcasted by Treet TV, a Second Life specific television network.

About POP ART LAB

Pop Art Lab introduction – Present in Second Life since Sept. 2008, Pop Art Lab is a virtual music venue, aiming at bringing real life music industry into Second Life thanks to three major actions:

1.Promoting music by broadcasting brand new music in-world. Four full CDs are constantly played inside the venue and are changed on a bi weekly basis. This allows visitors to listen to the latest releases, sometimes even before they are actually available in their countries and stay tuned to music industry news.

2. Supporting singers and musicians who want to break into Second Life by organizing concerts and TV shows. Pop Art Lab regularly hosts in-world concerts, inviting performers to play in front of a virtual audience. Pop Art Lab also hosts TV shows, where musicians are interviewed before playing their songs. This show is made in partnership with Treet TV and has included artists like Greg Hawkes (The Cars) and Max Morgan http://treet.tv/shows/popvox.

3. Pioneering the collaboration between real world major music companies and Second Life activities.

Pop Art Lab also sets standards in virtual venues design, giving its visitors a unique experience. Taking advantage of Second Life technical abilities, the place has nothing in common with real life – being there is being in your fantasy land!

Pop Art Lab 2 years Annivesary – What a Ride

Categories: NewsTags: , , , , , , , , , , Author: Claus Uriza

September 4th we’ll celebrate our anniversary with quite a bash. Please see our Art Breaker sections for details. So lets travel back in time and tune in “PAL Opening Friday Nite Report” dated Sept. 6th 2008. No pictures but few poor ones in our flickr archive (pg. 8 bridge). Then we jumped into SLCN.TVs weekly RealBiz programme. Then we started making Pop Vox music TV. And time went on and history occurs if it makes sense. Go browse our archives plenty of ducumentary there.

I would much rather ramble bit about process of the making before Pop Art Lab was officially open. Late 2007 I migrated from the 777 sims. I had a beautiful apartment there and went out buying whatever soundrelated stuff I could grab. Suddenly streaming throughout the sim and realizing I had to get my own parcels. I went to Moon Park run by Lapiscean Liberty and got 4 parcels. Rezzed my 1000 prim high-end arty house and said “now some music”. Why not have seperate music (streams) in each room I so love that in the physical space so…yay chill in bedroom, lounge area and rock it. Within short Pop Art Lab was born! Or well we met in the sand talked about names and stuff. Needed to make a group. It all gets hazy but I ended up with a long group name that soon became known as Pop Art Lab. Then the build phase began and thinking back now we really have to bring back some of the thoughts from back then. We have been through three sound conceptual designs and to make it short. How people react and explore in immersive spaces is a subject of science. Ok from house to the lab. The early PAL was set up, tested and I guess we actually had a minor opening April 2008. An early MadPea formation came, tweaked their game and it was all fun but somehow just a few communities knew. And oh yes stability. I wanted 99% stability in this streamy jukebox so I spent next Q testing and that was it!
We opened in September. Two years ago. Nummerious events, tv shows and crazy stuff happened since then. The outcome will pretty much be available Saturday September the 4th.
Our lab just rolled and we’ll continue to tweak as our common experience grow. We’ll be around timely to say!
PAL is about music in nice designs. It’s a sci-fi fantasy environment that some day becomes real.
Coming week we’ll get set for our birthday. We’ll showcase Art Breaker where designs interact with music. Each artist/creator will be presented here as well as all info related to our anniversary.
Join the ride and you’ll see glimpse of what to come.

Tasuku Ghost enter Pop Art Lab

Categories: NewsAuthor: Claus Uriza

We are pleased to announce Tasuku Ghost will come do a live performance at our upcoming event this Saturday 4 pm SLT/PST. I stumbled upon his latest video few days ago posted via Twitter by Malburns Writers blog.  I was barely done watching it before I went to his MySpace to check for more tunes. This left me even more convinced that I had to take action right away. His sound is cool indietronica and to quote Goski who put it this way “he sounds like a mix between WARP records and new Rephlex”! Bit later I saw Hamlet Aus Tweet “A Second Life star is born: Watch Tasuku Ghost, who performs live electronica w/awesome 3D show” Read more at his New World Notes blog. I have re-posted ColeMarie Soleils awesome machinima below. Yesterday I asked the labs new A&R/event manager Goski Easterwood to contact Tasuka as we are filling up the programme for Saturdays event.
Few hours ago I managed to meet Tasuka and gave a tour showing our various stage setups. We immediately connected and had a nice talk. Please go to his MySpace for more and mark your calender Satuday – we will surprise you! And update programme further coming days.

Official bio:
RL professional musician Tasuku Arai, who goes by the name Tasuku Ghost in SL, began his musical journey when he first laid eyes on a set of drums in junior high. Primarily self taught, tasuku played in several bands, then in 2007, decided to focus on making music and performing solo.
tasuku often reflects upon the dreams and memories hidden within himself and uses the evoked images to write music, giving it that special something that so gently but strongly will capture your heart! tasuku is a magician at using computer music as well as sampled sounds from live performances. They come in fruition as ambient, house, techno and electronic music.
In RL, Tasuku is heavily involved in making music for movies and theatrical work but still finds time to appear in solo live performances.
