We are pleased to announce our next Pop Vox TV show is close.
The show is broadcastet real time live by Treet.TV throughout the grid or you can watch it live at Treet.TV

Pop Vox Presents Redzone

Hamlet Au, New World Notes “They play for steampunks and post-apocalyptics and their metaverse band headquarters is the wreckage of a Soviet troop chopper abandoned in the desert. They’re a British trio called Redzone, and of all the many bands who regularly play in Second Life, so far they’re my favorite”

Redzone
Redzone is Cabaret Voltaire (vocals/electric violin), Red Xu (guitar/bass guitar/samples), and Avomatsur Rustamova (synth/electric double bass/theremin). Redzone have a unique and original sound, fusing industrial, hiphop, musique concrète, electronica, classical, alternative and ambient influences.  Fast and tight – tender and evocative – their unique songs and sounds hijack your soul, activate your reward circuits and energize your entire being. Talented, committed, passionate – this band have the confidence and energy to rock an audience. Redzone have been compared to Collide, Bjork and Recoil among others, but defy categorisation. Redzone were credited by Wired and Reuters as being the first band to tour in Second Life.

Plz note the show is limited to 40-50 seats. The sim will be agent limited due to lag control and to ensure a safe operation.

There are some truly talented artists participating in this year’s contest from all avenues of Second Life. Please take a moment to view their videos, and share your feedback with them in the comments section.

Al Peretz: La Rumba Bacana II

Al Peretz:  BACANO: In Colombia, something very very good or nice or cool. It came into use in late ’70s for the young people.

PERNETT 2009 is a year of new horizons for this prolific artist, native of Barranquilla, Colombia. The style can be described as a new generation Folklore Colombiano going deep and most important, studying the mastermind behind this sounds like Toto La Momposina, Joe Arroyo, “Batata” or Petrona Martinez to name a few.

In this video Al Peretz “alkohn” Mix Pernett”s music with the electronic movement of machinima.

Merry Christmas! 2009-2010 Round Up

Pop Art Lab would like to wish all our friends and supporters a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Last few weeks we’ve been taking a break simply due to a very busy year.

To look back highlights been some very cool Pop Vox TV shows think we up at 8 shows till now and we will soon start filling up slots for 2010. Also a Pop Vox website is under construction.

We don’t keep track of events but guess it’s been 10 bigger ones during 2010. The climax surely was our 1 year anniversary b-day event.
Also of note we managed to get our own sim back in June and it’s been wonderful with full powers and more freedom. We are still building a brand new design and PAL as you know it by now will soon be history! Ofcourse we will keep a copy in case we need to put back someday but we can ensure you the new PAL is completely different. We expect to open new PAL in February.
Another lovely moment was our attendence at SLCC09 The Second Life Community Convention in San Francisco back in August. So nice to hook up with Dusan, Hamlet, Starr, Beyers, Pathfinder etc. and to shake hands with Cory Ondrejka, Mark Kingdon, Tom Hale and even Amanda Linden shortly in Battery Street at Linden Labs HQ.
Few months ago PAL managed to be part of Second Lifes Solution Provider programme and we was invited in to try out the new SLE, Second Life Enterprise. Madhavi Linden been a great contact in this process and we are looking forward to support Linden Lab further to promote Second Life as well as the PAL platform.
Guess this was the most important points in 2009.

2010 is coming and looks like it will be a great virtual year. So far I been booked for a speech in Finland and as consult at another RL workshop about virtual worlds.
2010 might well be the tipping year for Second Life! Lately Metaplace and Forterra announced what looks like a disclosure. This let me to the conclusion that Second Life is still the most solid and and fully functional virtual world. The Open Sims still lacks stability and users to become really interesting. Blue Mars have a long way to go and maybe Second Life graphics will be up there when they finally get fully functional.

Therefore Pop Art Lab will continue to operate in SL and expand our position. First step will be the openning and continuing developement of our new sim(ulator). To face such nice creative process is simply wonderful. Centered in the magic mix of a wide range of real life inspiration we’ve found some 5 codes to enrich the final immersive experience. Deadlines constantly delayed but who cares it will arrive timely!

To sum up we can’t wait to show you all our new designs and builds!

Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year!

This time we have set up a huge production involving five models/dancers, fashion and surprises!

Updates from the Lab

Categories: NewsTags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , Author:

Finally time for some updates the day after Linden Lab launched their behind the firewall solution formerly code named Nebraska now SLE Second Life Enterprise. Watch the mixed reality vid. at Metanomics or read more I recommend visiting official LL press and Dusan Writers blog.

Now some great news. Pop Art Lab now part of SLs Solution Provider programme. This can be seen as yet another step turning the lab towards enterprises who want to benefit and be part of our well branded and respected visions – to provide a solid unique platform for music minded projects or simply some outstanding designs and collaborations.
During approval of submission it was nice to give Linden an 1 hour tour showing the lab.

As earlier mentioned here we are currently planning and designing a brand new Pop Art Lab. The launch is set to New Years Day! The designs and build is happening and hidden away untill we get done and can move it almost overnight!

The next Pop Vox our music tv programme in partnership with Treet.TV is scheduled December the 7th. Again little info can be aired yet although I can promise we already work on make it more spectacular than any previous shows!

This leads me to another exciting ongoing project – the creation of a magic Pop Vox/Pop Art Lab showroom at Treet.TVs sim.

The regular visitors might have spotted we’ve added a new Amazon app. right side of this blog. Now u can simply support the artists and the lab by buying direct via this app or by visiting our listening booths inworld and click the albumcovers. The service is still under developement but works smoothely already. More on this soon!

Finally we are working on setting up next event including many live acts. Please IM or email us if u aware of very talented musicians u would like to see at the lab tx.

Engrama: Images in Music (is UP!)

Categories: NewsTags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , Author:

The Pop Art Lab TV studio had a real Latino atmosphere on Monday the 19th October, when cool Argentine duo, Engrama, visited us for a 25 minute interview as part of our Pop Vox TV series.

WATCH HERE!

Engrama are Pupito Abrahams and Lakua Arriga, a hugely talented partnership who are rapidly gaining a cult following with both Second Life and real life audiences. Based in the flamboyant and culturally eclectic city of Buenos Ares, their sound is a mix of raw guitar and Hispanic percussion all counterbalanced by lyrics full of delicate imagery.

Comparisons with the legendary ‘White Stripes’ have followed this band during their year long stint around the music venues of SL and they cite a diverse range of bands such as Mogwai, Sonic Youth and The Residents as their main influences-but to compare Engrama to any other band is lazy, as their style is very much their own. Both Lakua and Pupito performed brilliantly during the interview and it was a fantastic opportunity for Claus and me-plus the audience in the TV studio and those watching on Treet.TV, to discover more about their music and future plans.

Following the interview, Engrama took to the main stage at Pop Art Lab and treated us to a 45 minute set of their unique music-to the delight of new and old fans alike. One thing is guaranteed, Engrama are destined for very real success-in both worlds.

Huge thanks to all the Treet.TV staff, our RL sponsors, Corlone Arts flowery sim decorations and the in world Pop Art Lab crews designs and moderations.

Wow….what a trip!!!!!

What an INCREDIBLE 1st birthday party we had at PAL! The whole sim looked amazing thanks to the lovely people at Caerleon Isle Art Collective, with swaying psychedelic flowers, some groovy fractal art and 3D acid trips! Everyone partied in an array of hippy inspired clothing which really added to the 1960’s theme chosen to celebrate Pop Art lab’s first year.

Our visitor counters went into meltdown when we reached 230 people-but the lovely new Class 5 sim did us proud and there were NO crashes-The Linden Lab gods must have been smiling down on us!!

The musicians were all awesome and we were lucky enough to see some new and established acts come and play for us-testament to the absolute professionalism of the musicians who use Second Life as a platform for showcasing their immense talent. Special thanks must go to these artists: Hazideon Zarco, Avvy Barzane, Obeloinkment Wrigglesworth, Engrama, Starflower Orbit and long time friend of PAL-Mankind Tracer.

There was a real feeling of love in the pixilated air as local chat echoed with congratulations and some funny anecdotes-it really was a great crowd of people who came to support us!

Congratulations to the whole PAL team who are some of the hardest working people in Second Life and real life media/music, but extra applause must surely go to Claus Uriza-CEO of PAL who has poured his heart and soul into making PAL the most progressive music project not only in Second Life-but in any virtual world. You rock Claus!!

I am off to sweep up empty beer tins, underwear and other rock and roll items off the floors of PAL and to look back on a hugely successful first year-bring on year 2!!!!!

Peace

Persia Bravin xxxxx

Thank you: To Claus Uriza, Emily Hifeng, Xray, Serendipity, Starr Sonic, RLF Easterman, Syl Darcy, Saturnine Dryke, Maxes Loon, Twstd Ruggles, Austin Ellison and all the other 22,000 people who have visited and supported PAL in its first year.

SLCC 09, New Sim & Updates

Second Life Community Convention (SLCC)

A few days ago, it was confirmed that PAL will be presenting a 45 min speech at the SLCC annual conference in San Francisco (August 13th-16th), as well as participating in the two-day musictrack/panels there. It’s a great honor, and we’ll come and share our 1½ years of experience in music and music TV production in SL. Overall, though, the speech will focus on how virtual worlds open up new opportunities in the way we experience music and how bands and fans will be able to touch base much more directly in the future.
New Pop Art Lab Sim
As previously posted, we recently obtained our own sim. Currently, PAL consists of the “old” design rezzed up in the sky whilst we plan “form & function” and design for the full sim build at ground level. It’s a huge job, and one of the main challenges is how we connect the best from PAL as it originally was designed at birth – “a walk through sound exhibition” model- versus the PAL most of you know which was designed focusing on easy navigation and a clear way of telling visitors what the PAL concept is all about (an easy way to hear the best new albums on the market). The goal, however, is to expand the immersive possibilities which 3D enviroments offer, but still maintain easy navigation.

“The walk through sound exhibition” model
February 2008

“The easy to navigate” model,
September 2008
The build design in itself is a mega project, and we expect the new design to be ready in September or October and celebrate the opening along with PAL’s official 1st year birthday.
There are several reasons why we have moved to our own sim. First of all, we needed full control and powers to protect the build and the good name we already have. Secondly, we now feel totally secure in liaising with sponsors. Whatever happens, no-one will be able to spoil the fun! Lag issues and prim limits with the old 6 parcel PAL will be greatly improved.
Pop Art Lab Update
We have been busy with the new sim, holidays and a video shoot lately. The video shoot in particular has been quite a job. It involves an RL band from Hollywood, LA and is PAL’s first step into such an enterprise. That means we’ve made custom-designed stage/builds and RL replicas of artists’ avatars, and we have utilised animators, a lighting manager and others. A hell of a lot of work has gone into this venture, but we are very close to the end of all this and it’s been a very exciting process to say the least.
Which leads me to our new Pop Vox TV shows in the making. Hopefully, two new Pop Vox shows will be broadcast in August at Treet.TV.
Lastly, this blog has a new editor! Welcome to Serendipity, long-time PAL supporter, who has agreed to help with fresh new ideas and to edit my English typos.
