Pop Art Lab 2 years Annivesary – What a Ride

Categories: NewsTags: , , , , , , , , , , Author:

September 4th we’ll celebrate our anniversary with quite a bash. Please see our Art Breaker sections for details. So lets travel back in time and tune in “PAL Opening Friday Nite Report” dated Sept. 6th 2008. No pictures but few poor ones in our flickr archive (pg. 8 bridge). Then we jumped into SLCN.TVs weekly RealBiz programme. Then we started making Pop Vox music TV. And time went on and history occurs if it makes sense. Go browse our archives plenty of ducumentary there.

I would much rather ramble bit about process of the making before Pop Art Lab was officially open. Late 2007 I migrated from the 777 sims. I had a beautiful apartment there and went out buying whatever soundrelated stuff I could grab. Suddenly streaming throughout the sim and realizing I had to get my own parcels. I went to Moon Park run by Lapiscean Liberty and got 4 parcels. Rezzed my 1000 prim high-end arty house and said “now some music”. Why not have seperate music (streams) in each room I so love that in the physical space so…yay chill in bedroom, lounge area and rock it. Within short Pop Art Lab was born! Or well we met in the sand talked about names and stuff. Needed to make a group. It all gets hazy but I ended up with a long group name that soon became known as Pop Art Lab. Then the build phase began and thinking back now we really have to bring back some of the thoughts from back then. We have been through three sound conceptual designs and to make it short. How people react and explore in immersive spaces is a subject of science. Ok from house to the lab. The early PAL was set up, tested and I guess we actually had a minor opening April 2008. An early MadPea formation came, tweaked their game and it was all fun but somehow just a few communities knew. And oh yes stability. I wanted 99% stability in this streamy jukebox so I spent next Q testing and that was it!
We opened in September. Two years ago. Nummerious events, tv shows and crazy stuff happened since then. The outcome will pretty much be available Saturday September the 4th.
Our lab just rolled and we’ll continue to tweak as our common experience grow. We’ll be around timely to say!
PAL is about music in nice designs. It’s a sci-fi fantasy environment that some day becomes real.
Coming week we’ll get set for our birthday. We’ll showcase Art Breaker where designs interact with music. Each artist/creator will be presented here as well as all info related to our anniversary.
Join the ride and you’ll see glimpse of what to come.

I have been waiting for this day in a long time! Since SLCN.TV changed name to Treet.TV their entire website has been scheduled a relaunch. Tons of recorded shows in archives had to be moved (we are talking zillion MBs here!), tweaked etc. but today after merely ½ year of re-designing the brand new site is up! Keep in mind its hot off the press and few bugs still here and there.

Our TV shows Pop Vox now has a cool “own” site there and I am busy uploading and adding content. Please go check it out and join the Pop Vox group and help the forum grow! Feel free to spam the forum with all your Pop Vox memories!

http://treet.tv/shows/popvox (press “join” in box upper right side of site).

Pop Art Lab sends warm grats to our partners Treet.TV with the relaunch. We look forward to keep pushing the limits in our shows and partnership in 2010.

Pop Art Lab soon return with details and a 2010 roadmap for what looks like a very cool and busy year!

What an awesome Pop Vox show last night!
A report and how these shows happen behind the scene. We meet 1 hour before showstart MK, Persia Bravin, Yxes Delacroix (Treet.TV) and me. There we set up mikes and audio to test Skype and SL voice. This may sound as an easy job for an hour and well it can be. But being the director of these shows and not the best to let other people do the job I have to deal with access lists, handing out landmarks, coordinate audio/vids for simulcasted etc! Of course all this is planned and handed out days before shows but somehow people loose their notecards, SLurls, schedule and landmarks (and I sometimes do myself too!). No offence here at all just a note to let ya’ all know Second Life planning ain’t like Real Life planning. And oh to catch up this pre hour set up is high speed work leaving me with tons of IMs I try reply while speaking with 3 people same time on voice. Sorry to those I had to ignore.

*The cover of Mankind Tracers brand new CD*

Anyway!!! Pop Vox started 4:02 and we got it all set inclusive the audience. For the first time we invited the audience to participate in the artist interview by sending me IMs with their questions. It was great fun and after Persia Bravin finished her 20 min. interview I asked MK questions from the audience. After the interview which by the way was streamed live throughout the grid to those who tuned in and at SLCN plus Treet.TVs newly designed site we headed to the Q sim stage area where MK kicked off his 45 min live set at 5 PM. About 100 people saw and heard MK at his absolute TOP playing an awesome gig. I can’t wait to see this in HD widescreen qual. when Treet.TV put up in their archives asap. We could have hoped for more people but it was very late night in Europe and to maximize the TV recording it definately helped the sims didn’t lack performance due to higher traffic. Also of note Videopathic had set up a giant Intelli screen above stage where show could be viewed as seen live on Treet.TV.
To sum up it was prolly the most professional and successful Pop Vox show to date! :)
Huge respect and thanx to all behind this TV production/show.

Mankind Tracer recently visited PAL and played a fantastic 2 hour live set.
This time we set up TV recording incl. 30 min. interview.
Pop Vox is intended for bringing in the RL scene but obviously Mankind has shown incredible talent by intensive touring throughout the grid last 2 years and reached one of the largest fan bases inworld… so let’s twist!

We recently had tight schedules in Pop Vox featuring both Max Morgan and Baby “Lorenzo” Woodrose within 2 days and we look so much forward to present Mankind to improve concept on these groundbreaking shows!

More info comin up asap!

A quick update!
We passed Baby “Lorenzo” Woodrose event last night and I can’t wait to see the vids from both interview and live set. UPDATE WATCH THEM NOW HERE

It was RL vs. Virtual at its best since we managed to transform my RL livingroom into a recording studio. Even my friend who controlled Lorenzos inworld avatar was there!
Set up with 2 laps, 1 desk, 3 LAN, multimixer, 3 headsets, 3 Skypes/SL Voice, 1 mike, 1 guitar and 1 reverb machine (infact the exact same copy as sixties psych legends 13th Floor Elevators used at their “Bull of the Woods” album recording back in 1968!)
Add beers and u prolly get the picture! It was a blast!
Must be stated it was an exercise in tech OMG but we f…n made it!

A short report from best concert I’ve seen in SL till now!

It was a true pleasure to host Max Morgans SL premiere last night. Despite some 15 mins delay on Pop Vox interview everything worked smoothe.

Max did a kewl interview and thumbs up and great respect! He is certainly an artist we can expect to hear much more from in the future. Watch it here!

After the interview we headed to the PAL Bay Stage in the center of 4 sims. There Max performed a 45 mins live set of absolute top quality in both sound and music.

I had the same feeling as when I once heard Jeff Buckley live in the start 90s. I really dig Max’ coming CD but live and solo he sounded so rockin’ I have not seen alike at those 100+ concerts I’ve been to in SL!

The greatest respect goes to the entire crew behind this production:

Baby Woodrose Pop Vox TV Info

It’s a great pleasure to announce the next Pop Art Lab production! Pop Art Lab presents Baby Woodrose Wednesday March 11th 1 pm – 3 pm slt TV show will include ½ hour interview followed by 45 mins live performance. It will be part of PAL/SLCN.TVs Pop Vox series bringing RL artists into SL.
Baby Woodrose was formed by frontman Lorenzo in late 2001, started out as a side project to the psychedelic stoner group, On Trial, who since the early 90’s released intoxicating drug-induced rock music that turned its users into sheer liquid. One album on Germany’s SPV label and several for the UK based Delerium/Molten Records saw the band tour vigorously in Europe, but one day Lorenzo got tired of sitting behind the drums, so he embarked on a solo project he decided to call Baby Woodrose (named after the Hawaiian flower).Lorenzo, playing all the instruments himself, recorded 15 songs in less than a week and released the album on his own label. Four years later, Baby Woodrose, now a trio, have released numerous 7” singles and 4 full lengths (one of which is a live album and one a full cover/tribute album) on the independent label, Bad Afro Records.
In 2004, Baby Woodrose was nominated for a Danish Music Award (didn’t win it!) but they went on to win Danish National Radio’s most-sought-after Award, The P3 Gold Award. They toured Europe on numerous occasions, among these a much talked about appearance opening Roskilde Festival’s main stage in 2003 in front of a 90.000 audience, a “not so good” drug bust in Norway and various collaborations with some of Scandinavia’s most recognized rock bands.
In 2006, the trio released their most ambitious effort yet, the album “Love Comes Down”. It was released as a joint venture between the band’s own label, Spinello, and Scandinavia’s premier alternative music distributor, Playground Music.
In end of 2007 their next album follwed entitled Chasing Rainbows their most poppy and commercial release AND their most experimental and druggy album so far with the use of instruments like cello, lap-steel, flute and tabla. The Album recieved TOP reviews in entire press locally in Denmark.
